Lisa’s Soapbox
Thursday, June 4th, 2009It doesn’t matter what type of bike you like to ride….it’s the fact that you love cycling… that’s what matters. I say this because everyday I talk to new people in cycling who are intimidated by group rides, or they feel like they are being looked down on for being a newbie.
Well, I really believe it’s time that we change this. It’s our duty as cyclists to help a newbie out. It’s our duty as cyclists to be nice, kind and to treat each other with respect for one reason alone:
WE LOVE TO RIDE OUR BIKES!
So, next time you see someone who may be struggling on the side of a road or trail, ask them if they need help. Or the next time you see another cyclist at a local cycling watering hole…say hello…even if you don’t know them. You’d be surprised at just how much of a difference this makes. Don’t make someone feel bad that they aren’t as strong of a rider as you….you should welcome them into the sport!!! Encourage them to get better! You never know…the next Lance Armstrong may be in our local cycling community!! Wouldn’t that be great?
