Please join Tana Brown and Don Hamby for a Memorial Ride in honor of Jerry Williams.  Details are below…

Date:  June 25th
Time:  7:00 am
Start Location:  Blue Diamond General Store
Route:  Blue Diamond to the top of Mt. Potosi and back

Everyone is invited to attend.  After the ride, there will be a luncheon at Don Hamby’s house where you can eat and share stories of Jerry.  Lunch starts at 11:00 am.  Non riding partners/spouses are also invited to the lunch.

This is not a regularly scheduled or sanctioned LVVBC ride, but something that Tana and Don wanted to do to get people together to honor Jerry’s memory and the lives he has touched.

I just received word from Donna Webster of the Las Vegas Valley Bicycle Club that our friend Jerry Williams passed away June 10th, 2009 as a result of a bike accident in Evanston, IL.  Jerry has been a long time cyclist in Las Vegas.  He would spend his summers in Evanston, IL and the rest of the year here in Las Vegas.

Jerry was a wonderful man, warm and caring, a true cyclist in every sense of the word.  When I first met him, I was riding the Tour de Las Vegas event and I got lost and didn’t have a route sheet.  He told me to follow his group…and then he blew me out of the water.  He was so fast that I couldn’t keep up and I lost his group too.  I will certainly miss him and I am praying for his family in this time of mourning.  Jerry…Rest in peace, we will all miss you.

Hello Everyone.  I received an email from Tony Bennett of the Las Vegas Valley Bicycle Club today that stated they received a miscommunication from their contact in Evanston, IL.  Jerry Williams has not passed away.  According to the email, Jerry is in a deep coma at Lutheran General Hospital.  He is still alive on a respirator.  His wife is waiting for their children to arrive to make the decision of discontinuing life support, which may happen tomorrow.   For now, my thoughts and prayers are with Jerry and his family in this most tragic time.  I will keep you updated on his condition as soon as I get it.
