Had a great turn out Saturday morning for the last of the LV MTB race series, many thanks to Robin and to Richard from Pro Cyclery for putting on the 3 race series.
Saturdays event was a 6 mile loop that was run "Gran prix" style. The groups /catagories started at 6:30am and left in 30 second intervals until everyone was on course. The race was limited to 4 laps and the "Gran Prix" style ment that the first rider to complete 4 laps ended the race for everyone. So, if you where out on your 3rd lap and the leader had just completed his 4th lap, when you can across the line you where done.
The start was fast and dustly, I had to drop back a few yards from the rider in front just so I could see the trail through the dust. Second lap opened up the field enough that further laps where not as dusty. The heat stayed away for the most part and boy was I thankful for that! Matt Mcgee (McGhies) crossed the line first for the Cat1 open class, followed by Brandon Cunningham(Las Vegas cyclery), and Scott Johnson(All Mountian) was third. I crossed the line next to take the fouth overall and first for the Cat1 40 plus.(go old guys!) Bob Mcall suffered a flat tire but toughed it out and took 2nd. Tony Gonzalas rounded out 3rd in the Cat1 40+.
Southwest bikes had awesome raffle and almost everyone that bought a raffle ticket walked away with great swag.
Rocky from Southwest Bikes is also doing a great job with his Junior program. It's great to see the younger riders out enjoying the sport.
