Tour De Cure Practice Training Ride 50k 3/13/10 - RSVP Forum

Hey Guys and Girls...

This weekend's Saturday Challenge Ride will be another Tour de Cure Training Route. We're going to repeat the 50k option (which really ended up being 40 miles) for anyone who wants to do it again. (My plan for next following weekend will be to do the 100k...but I thought it best to repeat the 50k this weekend for training purposes.)

We will start at 9:00am.

Starting location:
The same starting address as the Tour de Cure.
200 Water Street, Henderson, NV 89015
--Park in parking lot behind the Civic Center Building

Here's a link to the route...BUT NOTE...I will be revising the route so we will NOT be getting on the 93/95 junction...instead we will take Boulder Highway all the way to the end and get on the River Mountain Trail Loop from there. We will get off at Veteran's Memorial the way we did with Pablocruiser a few weeks ago...to try to mimic the route as much as possible. Then, head into Lake Mead, back on the RML trail to bypass the fee station, then onto Lakeshore road, then onto East Lake Mead and back to the Tour de Cure start/finish.

HELMETS ARE MANDATORY. Please bring your own supplies for flats, and nutritional needs for refueling. The pace of this ride should average 14mph. It should only take about 3 - 3.5 hours to complete (with rest stops).

Who's coming? Post it here.

FYI, I think that a portion of the RML and the area around the visitors center will be coned off for the 6 Tunnels Half-Marathon that day. I'd join you but I'll be running it. :)

As a suggestion you might want to avoid Lake Mead Drive as much as possible. The construction has got even more congested since the last training ride out there. Here's another route that could act as training for the Td Cure ride down the line after the six tunnels run.

My son has a baseball game this Saturday morning so I won't be able to join the ride. Be safe out there y'all...

P.S. be patient with the bikely.com site....... it's slowwwwwwww and sometimes needs to be reloaded to work. The suggested route above is 43.3 miles or just under 70 km.

I just confirmed with Lake Mead Recreation that the RML is not part of the Half Marathon. They will be using the portion that goes from Alan Bible Visitor Center to the tunnels. So, that leaves the RML open for bike riders. MountainManEvents does not have a permit for the RML.

MountainManEvents may be using part of the RML (6 miles of it) until 9:30 am. I am getting conflicting stories from both sides, so I don't know what the deal is now, but if they indeed are using it, it's only until 9:30 am. So, I think we will still be okay.

havok2099...I had to cancel tonight's night ride due to all the cold weenies that canceled on me. Sorry about that. I just sent out an email. I guess we know that Las Vegas riders don't like riding in temps below 45 degrees at night. lol!

As for everyone else...I will cancel the Tour de Cure training rides then. It's too much of a hassle to work around all the construction and route revisions. I'll let Carly know that I won't be hosting any official training rides for her due to all of these issues. lol.

However, I will still be putting on rides...so don't rule out riding with BLV. We just have to figure out the best routes to ride.

I'm going to lock this forum up for now and let's ride on the West side of town this week. I'll put up another forum with details.

Thanks for your patience everyone. It seems there are alot of challenges right now with all of the events in town and construction.
